does your computer run slow
Portland , ME -
Mine did. I have a winmodem which relies on to much CPU power. I got in touch
with IBM, the folk who made my box, and asked them if there were any updated
drivers for my modem. There were. I downloaded them and it helped a bit but
not a lot.
If you do any changes to your computer such as software or hardware it's a good
idea to keep a journal as to what you did and when and how it affected your
computer. If nothing else, it will the support techs when something goes
hideously wrong. It might also save you a trip and some money.
So I went over the downloads I'd done over the last few months. There was
nothing spectacular there, I'd done several virus upgrades and a couple of
utilities that I never used. I started to uninstall the utilities.
One of them was a demo of innoculateIT that Microsoft had recommended that I
download in preparation for Y2K. It may work well for NT but when I
uninstalled its personal edition for win9x my CPU usage dropped from 90+% to
around 20. This is not to say that Microsoft or innoculateIT aren't fine
products, I may not have installed it properly or it may have needed an upgrade.
This is to say that it is important to take notes.
